Paver Installation in Chesapeake, VA

Pavers are the workhorse of a great outdoor space: tough enough for a driveway, refined enough for a poolside lounge, and repairable in a way poured concrete never is. Andrae's Landscaping installs pavers throughout Chesapeake and Hampton Roads for patios, walkways, driveways, and pool surrounds. It's the most common material in our hardscape construction work, and it's where the difference between a crew that lays pavers and a crew that installs them properly shows up most.

Paver Services

Paver patios. From compact grilling pads to full entertaining spaces, we design and install patios sized to how you'll actually use them, with patterns and borders chosen to suit your home.

Paver walkways. Front paths, side-yard connectors, and garden walks with clean edges and a stable base that keeps every paver level for years.

Paver driveways. Built with the thicker base and heavier-duty pavers vehicle traffic demands, a paver driveway adds serious curb appeal and outlasts a plain concrete slab.

Pool surrounds. Slip-resistant, cool underfoot, and set with drainage in mind. Pavers are the go-to pool deck surface for Chesapeake backyards.

Pavers also pair naturally with the rest of your yard. As a full-service landscaping company in Chesapeake, we can plan your planting beds, lawn, and lighting around the new surface so everything works together.

Paver Types We Install

Concrete pavers. The most popular choice for good reason: wide range of colors, shapes, and textures, consistent sizing for tight joints, and strong value per square foot. Modern concrete pavers can convincingly mimic stone or brick at a fraction of the cost.

Brick pavers. Classic clay brick brings warm, traditional character that suits many Chesapeake homes. Colorfast and long-wearing, brick develops a patina over time rather than fading.

Natural stone. Bluestone, travertine, flagstone, and similar materials offer texture and variation no manufactured product quite matches. Each piece is unique, which makes stone the premium choice for patios and pool surrounds.

Permeable pavers. Designed with wider joints filled with open-graded aggregate, permeable pavers let rain drain through the surface rather than pooling or running off. In flat, wet Chesapeake yards, that's a practical solution as much as an environmental one.

What Affects Paver Installation Cost

Paver projects are priced by the square foot, but that number moves based on a few factors: the paver material (concrete is the most affordable, natural stone the most premium), the size and shape of the area, the complexity of the pattern and borders, how much excavation and base work the site needs, and whether the job includes steps, seating walls, or a driveway-grade base. Every project gets a free, itemized quote based on your actual property. For a more detailed breakdown, read our guide to paver costs in Chesapeake.

How We Install Pavers

The pavers are the last thing to go in and the only thing you'll see, but the quality of the job is decided long before that.

1. Layout and excavation

We start with a conversation about your property, your goals, and your budget. Request a free quote by phone or online and we'll take it from there.

2. Base construction

For design and construction projects, we develop a plan and walk you through materials, layout, and timeline before work begins.

3. Bedding and laying

A screeded layer of bedding sand creates a perfectly level surface, then the pavers go down in your chosen pattern, cut cleanly at edges and around obstacles.

4. Lock-in and walkthrough

Edge restraints secure the perimeter so the field can't spread, and joint sand (polymeric where appropriate) is swept in and compacted to lock every paver in place. We clean up completely and walk the finished surface with you before calling it done.

How long do pavers last?

Properly installed pavers regularly last several decades. The pavers themselves are extremely durable; what determines lifespan is the base underneath and the edge restraint holding everything in place. That's why we put so much of the work into preparation you'll never see.

Do pavers need to be sealed?

Sealing is optional but worthwhile for most Chesapeake patios and driveways. It deepens the color, resists stains from grills and vehicles, and slows weed growth and moss in the joints. We'll recommend a sealer suited to your paver type and let you know how often to reapply.

What happens if a paver cracks or sinks?

That's one of the biggest advantages of pavers over poured concrete. A damaged paver can be lifted and replaced individually without disturbing the rest of the surface. A sunken section usually means a base issue, which can be corrected by lifting the affected pavers, re-compacting, and resetting them.

Are permeable pavers a good choice in Chesapeake?

Often, yes. Chesapeake is flat, low-lying, and wet, and standing water is a common backyard problem. Permeable pavers let rain drain straight through the surface into a gravel reservoir below instead of pooling or running off, which helps with both drainage and stormwater management.

Can you install pavers over an existing concrete patio?

Sometimes. If the existing slab is sound, level, and drains properly, a paver overlay can be an option. If it's cracked, heaving, or holding water, it's better to remove it and build a proper base. We'll assess the slab during your free quote and recommend the right approach.
